Thanks, Milz!  I have been trying to articulate what I think is going 
on in this scene but couldn't for some reason.  I agree with you.  I 
think I've even come across this exact thing, not in the U.S. but 
elsewhere--using the smaller denomination to describe the price even 
though you could say "1 Galleon" instead.  Anyone from another country 
want to chime in?

A U.S. equivalent might be selling some things by ounce-prices instead 
of pound-prices.  If you looked at herb prices by the pound, you'd 
never buy them.  But you'll pay $2/oz.  (This is legit advertising 
though, because who DOES buy herbs by the pound?)
