  Have you seen Pay It Forward?  I was picturing Lupin as Spacey long before that movie came out, but when I saw it, I thought "That's what Lupin  might be like as a Muggle teacher."  The loneliness and compassion are definitely there, though Spacey's teacher is not quite as warm towards his students, as a whole, as Lupin was.
