Well, that was sort of my original question. I think if the author says
something, that something then is in a class by itself--not in The
Books, but coming from the source all the same. And I think in these
days of readily available transcripts and such, the spoken word (in an
official capacity, like a chat or interview) is almost as "published" as
a published text.

I think if JKR approves it, it should be accepted as fact, but my
question was, how do we refer to facts stated by JKR which do not appear
in the book? I don't think "canon" is the appropriate term, in which
case the answer to your question is, "No (sort of)."
