It did say that, then?  Did it seem to be enough to tie up Amos' 
dismissive treatment of Harry during GoF?  I suppose all that was 
merely device to demonstrate Cedric's noble nature, anyway.  Perhaps, 
you're right though, about his grief.  He, and Mrs. Diggory, as well, 
who knows, may have still been in such shock at the time, that their 
grief and anger are only just beginning to build...  We shall see...
