Well, in my experience (and if you've seen me, it's clear I have a bit
of experience in the eating-candy department), toffee and caramel are
varieties of the same thing. Both are very chewy, and both are (I think)
milk-based. Taffy is another stretchy, chewy thing, but it's not
milk-based. Fudge is different; it's sort of a candy, but not chewy;
more of a meltaway thing. I used to make a killer chocolate fudge, back
when I had time to cook things.
