Thank heavens I'm not alone in wondering about something so silly as a

Yes! That one drove me nuts - I kept thinking there must be some
extra negative that I was missing, and that if I were reading it
correctly, it would make sense. I finally gave up and decided it was
an error, but any time I come back to that passage I have to read it
two or three times just to make sure I wasn't missing the point.
I'm no english teacher, in reality or at heart, but I went nearly mad
trying to deal with that one.
