Another question about the British school system

All the time discussions got me wondering about my original 
interpretation of "Double" classes, as in "Double Potions."  I assumed 
it meant twice as long, like a lab.  Now I'm wondering whether it 
means "shared with another house."  Is this a common term in British 
schools?
