I've always enjoyed "The Dark Is Rising" series by Susan Cooper 
(another wonderful British author).  The books in the series 
are: "The Dark Is Rising", "The Greenwitch", "The Grey King", 
and "Silver on the Tree."  It's a retelling (of sorts) of the 
Arthur/Merlin story & I think totally enchanting.  Also, *anything* 
by Marion Zimmer Bradley.  Happy Reading
