On the gender point, Molly Weasley does seem to be a "typical 
housewife" as did Mrs. Barty Crouch, if this is commonplace in the 
Wizard world then there could well be gender discrimination isssues 
stemming from this. Neither women needed to stay at home with the 
kids after they reached pre-school age, yet they did.
