Right--you're writing much more clearly than I was.  I don't have 
godparents either, but one of my mom's cousins was named our guardian 
in the event that both our parents died.  In the case of people I know 
who have godparents, the godparents seem to also be the chosen 
guardians.  The point is that Lily and James's choice for their 
child's guardian pre-empts nearness of kinship.
