Very brown eyes look like black. I think it also
depends on the language, and use of it. In Russian,
for example, you can refer to someone having black
eyes, without people automaticaly thinking of
vampires. It just means very very dark brown eyes.
As to Hagrid: in addition to above-mentioned he is
half-giant. Maybe he got the eyes from Giantess-Mum?
