Hi.
Before I answer the questions, I'd just like to introduce myself. I've been
lurking for about a week and I enjoy the discussions in this group
immensely. My name is Hannah, and I live in Canada. Besides Harry Potter, my
current obsession is with the King Arthur legends, particularly Mordred. I'm
thirteen years old, so I might be considered a little young, but I think I
qualify as "mature for my age", but if I don't, just tell me and I'll go
back to lurking.

>1. Do you think it was all right that Lupin didn't tell Dumbledore about
>Sirius?

No. I think that Lupin should have thought things through a bit more. If
Sirius was guilty, then he would have been perfectly capable of getting at
Harry. Lupin could have informed Dumbledore anonymously. However, I do think
it was understandable that Lupin didn't. He did what anyone else would have
done in his situation. I also think that part of the reason Lupin didn't
tell Dumbledore is because he didn't want to believe that Sirius would use
his animagus form to kill Harry, and as more and more time passed and Harry
remained alive, that would have strengthened the subconscious thought.
>2. Did you have any suspicions about Scabbers not being a rat? After all,
>we
>already knew that he had been in the Weasley family for quite some time.
No, but I never have suspicions about anything while reading. I just swallow
the book in one gulp and analyze afterwards.
>3. What did you think when Harry, Ron and Hermione disarmed Snape? Do you
>think
>they did the right thing or should they have waited for something actually
>to
>happen?
No. I think they should have tried to reason with him a little more before
they resorted to disarming him. However, I think they should have disarmed
him later, if he didn't listen to logical arguments.
>4. When did you start to believe Sirius? When you heard that Scabbers was
>actually an Animagus or did it take you as long as it took Harry?
The moment Sirius and Lupin gave us the basic outline of the story I
believed them. However, that was because I was looking at it as part of a
book, and it smacked of resolution, and there weren't that many pages left.
>5. When Sirius told them about the night when James and Lily died, he had
>tears
>in his eyes. Did this scene have some kind of effect on you and deflected a
>bit
>from the evil wizard he was supposed to be?
No. I didn't really think he was evil at that point, and I was very curious
about all the gaps in the story and I wanted them to get to it.
>6. Why do you think has Sirius waited so long before he escaped from
>Azkaban?
>After all, he could have gotten away years ago, since it couldn't have
>taken him
>twelve years to get thin enough to pass through the bars?
I don't know about this one. It's possible that the dementors had sapped his
energy so much that it simply didn't occur to him.
>7. When Sirius accused Pettigrew of having sold James and Lily to
>Voldemort, he
>was shaking all over. Why do you think did he have this kind of reaction?
I think it was a very emotional moment for Lupin, Sirius, and Pettigrew.
They had a lot of history and the were meeting each other for the first time
in twelve years.
>8. We know Lupin as a very kind and calm person. Why do you think was he
>almost
>as eager to kill Pettigrew as Sirius was?
I think he wanted to kill Pettigrew for exactly the same reason Sirius did-
revenge. Even calm and kind people can feel that kind of hatred.
>9. Now that you know what happened at the end of Book 4, do you think that
>Harry
>would have been better off if he would have let Lupin and Black kill
>Pettigrew?
No. No matter what Pettigrew did, it's wrong to kill someone out of revenge
like that.
>10. Did you feel any kind of sympathy for Pettigrew?
Yes. In fact, he's one of my favorite characters to analyze. Reading between
the lines, it's very possible that Voldie used vicious tactics to get
Pettigrew to join him, and coupled with the jealousy that he already felt
towards his friends,it was enough to make him turn to the dark side. I'm not
saying that Pettigrew is a good person, but I think that a sadly large
number of people would do what he did under the circumstances.
>11. When Sirius offers Harry to live with him, Harry immediately says yes.
>Now,
>we know that there aren't many adults Harry trusts. Why do you think does
>he
>trust Sirius to the point of going to live with him, even though he has
>known
>him only for about an hour or so?
I don't know. This is a bit of a discrepancy in Harry's character.

>13. Do you think it was an accident that this Dementor tried to administer
>the
>Kiss to Harry, or do you think the Dementors aren't as loyal to Fudge as he
>would like them to be?
They definitely aren't loyal to Fudge. They go to whoever will get them the
most prey.
