I've not been in this group for *really* long, but OTOH I have always
liked to question authorities, so I'll stick to my personality and
ask: Why on earth does it have to be the 31 october? The weatherman
in PS/SS says that "people have been celebrating Bonfire Night a bit
early- it's not until next week". So, if the first day of PS/SS is a
Monday, we could go back as far as the Monday, 24 october for the
Potter killing. Or 2 november. I think that assuming the 31 october
for the Potter tragedy moves the whole thing too close to Nightmare
on Elm Street. Unless there's another reason for fixing 31 october,
which I would be glad to know.

very much the clock in the Weasley's kitchen. I bet it had hands
for James and Lily Potter on it, too. So maybe Dumbledore just
had to check his watch to know that something had happened
to the Potters... What do you think?"

You certainly have a point here: Dumbledore's watch can be no
ordinary watch. OTOH, what does he see on the watch that makes him
say that Hagrid's late, if it's not the time?
I checked the messages today and saw (to my enormous satisfaction)
that nobody had come up with a satisfying explanation for
the "missing 24 hours". OTOH, I wondered who'd brought up the theory
that it hadn't been Voldemort to murder James and Lily, but the
murders had been committed by someone else? Why? I have to admit that
I obviously got a later version of GoF with the persons coming out of
Voldemot's wand in the right order, so maybe I was never as problem-
conscious as the others.
I have to agree with the person who wrote that the real secret is
probably this: what happened in the night the Potters were murdered?
Anyway,it still strikes me as most amazing that Dumbledore could
learn so quickly about what had happened at Godric's Hollow that was
able to send Hagrid there in time.

Wonderful discussion about wizards' clothes, folks!!!! Question is,
when will the admins stampede us for it?? Or is fantasizing about
Sirius' legs (why hasn't anybody said anything about Snape's legs, he
referees the Quidditch match in PS and *has* to fly a broom) not
really OT? The broomstick problem, insofar as sitting comfort is
concerned, has been torturing me for a while- frankly, I haven't
found a solution.

Susanna (who is suffering more from Milanese heat than anybody can
possibly suffer from riding on a broomstick)
