Yes, I agree with this- I can picture JKR granting Ron's wish, so to
speak, by making him a prefect and Quidditch captain. I think (or at
least I hope) that we will see his character mature and watch his
uniqueness emerge.

That's interesting Amy. I think it will be the room that Dumbledore
mentioned in GoF- the room that contained the numerous amount of
lavish chamber pots, just at the time he had to go to the bathroom.
There's definitely possibilities there, and I think its been alluded
to in a chat JKR did.
Also, someone mentioned in a previous post that they thought one of
the Weasleys would defect to the Dark side (I'm sorry- I can't
remember where I saw it). I've thought about this too, from the first
moment I heard Ron's last name, and I'm leaning toward it being
Ginny. There seems to be a 'transfer of power' theme going on here
between Harry and Voldemort, illustrated by the conversation Harry
had with Dumbledore at the end of Book 1; likewise, I think that her
experience with Tom Riddle's diary in Book 2 might be of importance.
However, there is a duality to the Weasley name that would fit in
perfectly with JKR's love of words and their meanings and history
(etymology?). There's the obvious sound of the name, which is close
to weasel, that maintains a negative stereotype. But there's also the
history: there was a knight named Running Weasel who died when a rat
that had been died yellow (sound familiar?) knocked over a lamp in
his palace and burned it to the ground. Please see thepotterpages.com
for more info.
Lastly, (and thank you so much for your time and attention if you've
made it this far) I hope I'm not committing the ultimate newbie party
foul by being OT, but I'd like to sign up for a full-fledged
membership into L.O.O.N by complaining about the fact that books 3
and 4 of the American editions do not have Harry Potter in raised
letters on the dust cover, whereas 1 and 2 do. Part of the pleasure
of reading is holding the book, IMO, and admiring the artwork. Does
this bother anyone else?
