At the end of PoA there was a clear echo of Shakespeare's Richard III in the
Chapter called "Cat, Rat and Dog". IMHO, this is a second clear echo, in
GoF, of the scene in the play, on the eve of the fatal battle, where the
ghosts of Richard's victims come and visit him sequentially in his tent and
tell them what they think of him; they also visit Richmond, his enemy, and
give him encouragement. In RIII they are certainly speaking to his fear
(and implying that as even those who have already died are fighting for his
enemy he is not going to be able to hold his living supporters to his cause,
either)
