<I was reading PoA last night, and two questions came
<about my mind
<1) Dementors:Inside the books, we learn that
<dementors are blind, they can't see. However, they
<CAN sense happiness and life-force. That's how Sirius
<and Crouch escaped from Azkaban. If this is true,
<then how were the Dementors supposed to guard
<Hogwarts? How can they tell the students apart from
<Sirius? And if anyone can answer that, here's a
<nother question: We never hear the dementors talk, or
<give any signal that they listen or understand
<wizards. Well then, how would the Ministry direct
<dementors--or stop them from--performing the
Kiss?
IMO, Dementors, even if they are not able to see, have
simply other ways of perception and of identifying
persons: I imagine some kind of telepathic perception,
taking in the "emotional print" of a person, that
would be as characteristic as fingerprints. As far as
I understand it, they can't talk either and who knows
whether they can hear, so I think they might be also
directed by just thinking what you want them to do.

2)Muggles and Magic
<Even though Muggles feel them [Dementors], although
<they can't see them. Well, if this is true, why did
<the wizards have to hide their magical creatures?
<Dementors are definitely magical, and they say
<Muggles can't see them. So why must they somehow hide
<hinkypunks, grindylows, manticores,pixies? I'm not
<sure where I read this--the Magical Dreatures
<'textbook'?--but it was somewhere that said the
<wizards had to go into hiding and take all the
<magical creatures with them. What's the point, if
<Muggles don't notice them anyhow? I mean, yes, the
<Muggles noticed the unicorns, dragons, fairies,
<griffins, and suchlike, but perhaps it's only
<certain creatures?
I most definitely wouldn't refer to Dementors as
magical creatures, as magical creatures are more in
the positive sphere, if anything, they are dark
Creatures. The fact that Muggles can't see *them*
doesn't mean they can't see Unicorns etc.
I think that Muggles call Dementors by the name of
"depression", they can't see them, only feel the
effect they have.
