I can't recall hearing this before, but it seems that ghosts aren't
fully realized people at the time they die. (Look at Moaning Myrtle)
Dumbledore is; he only wants some woolen socks when he looks into the
Mirror of Erised to see what he really wishes. He's someone whose soul
is prepared for death. OTOH, you could argue that Dumbledore does
have unfinished business as the Enemy of Voldemort.
My guess is that Dumbledore will die clean, and in such a way that
he's passing the torch on to Harry. His death will be Harry's worst
moment and the darkest hour for the forces of Good.
