Jo has said that happy people don't become ghosts, however; IIRC, she
has also said that James and Lily didn't become ghosts, and if you
can still be considered happy if you're murdered at 22, believing
as you die that your baby son is about to be killed also, I'd say the
unhappiness bar is set pretty high. I'm sure that Dumbledore has
unfulfilled wishes more substantial than socks (and I say this as
someone who takes wool socks very seriously), but I agree with Jim
that he is as ready for death as a person gets.
