Why did we start reading the books?

Hi I'm new here- just joined- guess the best way to intorduce myself 
is to say how I ended up here!

I'm a mom of 3- only my 13 yo son and I have read all the books but my 
9 yo dtr has started to read the first book (I was reading to her but 
she is very social and our schedules weren't matching to continue)- My 
other dtr (3 yrs) knows who Harry Potter is and my husband keeps 
making joking comments about devil worship (he won't read them- his 
loss)

My son received the first book as a Birthday present from my 
sister who is a teacher- I had heard about the serries but hadn't read 
them- after all it was a "children's book"- he received the next book 
as a Christmas present and the third one shortly after.

Well he had read them and re-read them and kept saying- mom- read 
them- so I picked up the first book- finished in a weekend and read 
the next two over the next week- yes- I was hooked and we pre orderd 
the 4th book- we anxiously awaited its arrival and thankfully it was 
released in the summer- my son got the book during the day- I got it 
in the evenings and in about 3 days it was finished.

I love the stories and although they are about a young boy- they 
aren't "children's stories"
