The first time I heard about Harry Potter was when GoF came out. I was thrilled
that children were loving to read again, and always said to myself, "You should
start to read it," but never got around down to my library (even if I had, they
would have been checked out).
Fast forward to the end of September 2000. I'm in the library of our school with my
friend, and we're sort of antagonizing someone we don't like. We decide to do the
old "Talk In Whispers While Holding A Book In Front of You" trick. We were supposed
to be doing research for our Senior paper, but I had already gotten mine done. I
went into the aisles and picked up HP and the SS, remembering how I always wanted
to read them. I went back to my seat and held the book in front of me, but instead
of pretending to read it, I really did start to and got interested. I had known
nothing about Harry Potter, except that he was a boy wizard who went to a wizard
school and had adventures. That's why, when reading the very begining of SS, I
thought the Dursley's were good guys. Boy was I wrong!
Before too long I had read the entire series and got my friend hooked, too. That's
my story!
