Sorry I wasn't more clear. I was responding to the concept that Crouch was
somehow in cahoots with the Dark side by freeing his son.
I think he was a total jerk, and would NOT want to work for him in a million
years. The way he treated Percy and Winky was awful.
And the killing without trial is unacceptable.
His use of the Imperius curse is a little more sketchy for me--he wasn't
using it to make his son do evil, but to keep him from doing evil--which
makes it a little more of a gray area--and to keep him from having to die in
Azkaban (which sounds like a horible prison).

I think you're right. In fact, looking at it from the point of being
self-serving, he saved his son from Azkaban perhaps not to grant his wife's
wish, but to make himself look good in her eyes before she died?
Or out of guilt?
I hope more comes out about Crouch Jr and the whole relationship--it would
be interesting to know if he turned to Voldemort out of rebellion against a
controlling father, or if there is even more to the story.
But still, to set the record straight, IMHO, Crouch Sr is definitely a jerk.
