I was aware of HP for a long time before I actually picked up one of Jo's
books. In fact, I read the first couple of pages or so of PS in a local
bookshop several years ago, and thought that it was utterly boring!! But
last year (around August/September), I was very bored and stressed at
school, and had a lot of free study time in the library where I was just
sitting around staring at the walls. PoA was there, on the kiddies shelf,
and I looked and looked at it for days before deciding to take it out,
despite my friends laughter. When I went back, the librarian told me it had
been reserved, but that I could have it for the night as she knew I was a
fast
reader. So I read it in a couple of hours, and took it back next day,
whereupon she let me jump the queue and take out GoF immediately, much to
the chagrin of several ten year-olds!!  It took me six hours to read it;
from six pm to midnight, and I didn't put it down once until I was done!!
After that, there was a bit of a wait as I had to request CoS from another
library. Again, I read it in a couple of hours. And then, to round off my
muddled order of reading the books, I read a copy of PS bought with my own
hard-earned cash. Not a cool story at all, but it's mine, and I kinda like
it, and I don't think the order in which I read the books spoiled things
*too* much for me :)
