Ah. I didn't think of that (I haven't been playing that long and
didn't really know the thing about the relative caster levels).
However, it does mean that another high-level wizard (say Dumbledore)
would be able to stop AK if this theory is correct.
On a side note, I've thought about HP as compared to D&D a bit (with
the idea of writing rules for some of the characters) and they really
don't mesh. Rowling's wizards fall somewhere between D&D wizards (who
must learn spells academically and prepare them out of their
spellbooks each morning) and sorcerors (who do magic intuitively and
spontaneously). Likewise the spells differ in important ways. For
example, I couldn't think of a spell in D&D that compares to Avada
Kedavra. There are many candidates, Finger of Death and Power Word
Kill being the closest matches, but both of these can be stopped,
either by Dispel Magic, Greater Dispelling, Spell Turning, Death
Ward, counterspelling, spell resistance or (Finger of Death only) a
succesful Fortitude save.
Any other D&D fans on the list?
