There's an old saying never discuss sex, religion, and politics at a
party or any other social gathering for that matter.

John (representing the Mod team) and a few others have expressed the
need to move this topic off-list and with good reason. If you were
here for the Flame War a few months back when this was first brought
up you would understand. Sensible, intelligent, rational, and
articulate people on this list started to turn into some rather nasty
people, with provocation in some cases but that's not an excuse.

This subject has a lot of hot buttons associated with it that make
impartial purely intellectual debate almost impossible. Someone makes
a remark in passing while trying to make a point, that to them may
seem innocuous but to someone else it is personally offensive. Harsh
words are exchanged and then the flame war starts. It's human nature
when we are attcked most of us fight back. However that defense isn't
always carried out in the sanest of manners. People say things in the
heat of the moment that can deeply hurt another person and that they
regret later on. Inside us all is an insolent 8 year old waiting to
come out, whether we want to admit it or not.

If you want to continue this discussion, please e-mail each other off-
list or form a mailing list on the subject if you feel that would be
better. But please don't continue this thread it can degenerate so
quickly from a sensible discussion to a playground brawl.

Thanks,
       Kristin
