Because James Potter became Lord Voldemort when he was seduced by the
dark side of the Force, and thus Voldemort is Harry's and Leia's
father. Kidding! Kidding!

Seriously, I'm curious to find out more, myself, although I can already
see some possible connections. Dumbledore told harry in CoS that
phoenixes are extremely loyal pets. Fawkes was able to come to Harry's
aid when because he showed loyalty to Dumbledore. At the same time,
what does Voldemort prize most in his Death Eaters? Loyalty. Perhaps
it's this aspect that connects Harry and Voldemort through the wands.

I remember reading that the song of a phoenix inspired hope in those
pure of heart and terror to evil. However, I don't remember the source,
so it could be nonsense anyway. Aah well. Maybe phoenixes are neutral
creatures who are loyal to their masters, regardless of evil/good
alignment. Hard to tell for the HP universe, since we've only seen one
person with a pet phoneix.

Yours in self-obfuscation,
