According to interviews I was reading earlier today, it was Tolkien's
Hobbit that JKR said she had not read until embarking on the Harry
Potter books.  She said she had read Lord of the Rings at age 19 or 20,
but had not re-read them since.  I don't recall precisely which
interviews she said these in, although they are accessible from the
Harry Potter Galleries site.
