Amber, add me to the long list of those who LOVED the alternate summary.

Amber's non-alternate summary included:
> Without any trouble, the Flying Ford Anglia pulls the bars off.

My nitpick: the flying Ford Anglia isn't a *character* in canon (only in
real life).

Me, too.

I think I'm older than you and I had no childhood role model with
glasses, but I was *delighted* to get my first glasses anyway. I admit
that my mom let me choose my own frames and I chose wire frames under
the impression that they looked like hippy granny glasses only better,
but I believe that even if they had been hideous, I still would have
loved them because it was SO NICE to be able to read the sign on the
front of the bus instead of having to stick my head in the door and ask
the driver: "Is this the number 9?"

Apparently 1969. If it had been in USA, I would urge that JKR's bad
arithmetic had popped in again & it was really 1968.

I spent my lunch hour today writing Weasley ages on scratch paper (the
backs of printouts). I noticed for the first time that Bill and Charlie
COULD have been in the same year, if they were 11 months apart (among
Muggles, a second child 11 months after the first is a not-uncommon
'accident', such as my Tim and his next brother Jim), if they were the
right 11 months: if Bill was born September 1966 and Charlie was born
August 1967, they would both have started Hogwarts in September 1978,
and both finished Hogwarts Summer 1985 -- Charlie having left school in
Summer 1985 is one of the firmest dates we have, due to the Quidditch
Cup and House Cup statements.

And we can approximate that Percy was born in 1976, and the twins in
1978, and Ron in 1980 ... suppose there were a few babies between
Charlie and Percy. Think the 1978-79 school year, which was still during
The Bad Years. Bill and Charlie would have both been away at school
(Charlie's first year, Bill's first or second or third year) and safe at
Hogwarts. Two year old Percy and age-in-months twins were still babies
who needed to stay with Mama. Suppose one of Arthur's or Molly's
relatives who had fewer young children at home kindly invited the 8 year
old, 6 year old, and 4 year old over for a sleep-over, to give Molly a
bit of a rest ... but the Death Eaters attacked and killed that
household that night.

The twins wouldn't consciously remember that they had had more siblings.
Would two year old Percy consciously remember? I don't remember anything
from that age, but the most dramatic thing that happened to two year old
me was that my brother was born.

As best Lexicon Steve and I separately figured, Charlie's last year at
Hogwarts most probably was 1984-1985 school year. Percy was in fifth
year in 1991-92 school year (Harry's first year), therefore Percy's
first year was 1987-88. Someone pointed out that those two Weasley-less
years gave time for the memory of Head Boy Bill and Quidditch Captain
Charlie to grow to superhuman proportions, and give Percy IMMENSE
expectations to live up to. Also, If Bill and Charlie were in the same
year, Percy would have been the only Weasley at school without a sibling
there.

He could have (MUST have, in my chronology) gone there on a visit or an
errand or for a Former Pupils' Reunion.

You've been reading about King Arthur, haven't you?

Only that Ollivander told Harry: "You have your mother's eyes. It seems
only yesterday she was in here herself, buying her first wand." I don't
know why he said first.

People have previously interpreted Ron's used wand being worn out (It
was chipped in places and something white was glinting at the end.
"Unicorn hair's nearly poking out.") as meaning that it was a used wand
when Charlie got it, maybe inherited from a great-grandfather or
something. In that case, it wouldn't have worked as well for Charlie as
for its proper owner, not just Ron. I just got the idea that maybe the
reason that Charlie's only glory was Quidditch was that his schoolwork
and dueling were both hampered by having the wrong wand?
