Although everyone (including Snape, it would seem) believes Snape has 
a wizard's debt to James because of this action (ie James saved 
Snap's life) - so if Dumbledore, Snape, etc believe /now/ that Snape 
would have been killed by Lupin, then surely James etc would have 
believed it then?
