Somebody here mentioned Molly's mother hen instincts. I think that's what at the base of
Molly's "favoritism". Its not so much that she likes Hermione less, but that Harry, because
he is an orphan, awakens maternal feelings that Hermione, who has a normal happy home,
doesn't.
