Actually, I said he was a "serious jerk" - which I assumed people
would realize was a pun on his name.

Well, actually Black does make a comment before Snape shows up that
implies Snape would have deserved whatever he got. And even if Snape
did bring it on himself (debatable but acceptable for the moment),
using Lupin to do the actual deed is not very responsible.
I like Margaret Deans suggestion about James bounding off to save
Snape when he realizes what happened.
This is my last post on this issue because I'm sure people are
getting bored with it.
