Hippogriff or Griffin?

According to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by Newt 
Scamander:

Griffin (M.O.M. classification XXXX)
The Griffin originated in Greece and has the front legs and head of a 
giant eagle, but the body and hind legs of a lion...Griffins feed on 
raw meat.

Hippogriff (M.O.M. classification XXX)
The Hippogriff is native to Europe, though now found worldwide. It
has the head of a giant eagle and the body of a horse...The
Hippogriff 
burrows for insects but will also eat birds and small mammals.
