There was a thread a few months back, when I posted a theory that Snape
was doing Draco no favors and knew it, because by favoring him he kept
Draco from learning how to deal with difficulty. On the other hand,
Harry et al. are learning to overcome and live through adversity. If you
want I can try to look up the message numbers.
But I think this may be part of Snape's whole modus operandi, too.
That's why he's so complicated---all of these theories make a certain
amount of sense and are probably true to a degree.
