There are a couple more examples, which correlate with your point. 
Barty Crouch, Jr, who defines himself as his father's enemy and the 
Dark Lord's loyal servant. Maybe Crouch's co-conspirators also 
defined themselves only as the Dark Lord's loyal servants. Winky, 
defining herself only as servant of the Crouch family.
