Actually, she hasn't said "never" with respect to killing off Ron.
She's said that she finds it funny that kids are always asking her not
to kill off Ron. She said they know enough to recognize that the hero's
best friend often dies. She's bothered by the fact that noone seems to
concerned about whether Hermione will die or not. Everyone just assumes
she'll be fine.
Of course, she would tease about Harry maybe not making it. She doesn't
want to give away the farm in these chats. She's just trying to set us
up to not necessarily believe that he *will* make it to the end --
casting doubts about the ultimate outcome is all she's doing IMO. She's
certainly not going to say a definite yes or no with respect to the
survival of any of the major characters, but especially not Harry, Ron
or Hermione. :--)
