Good, I'm glad I'm not the only one. I see her has being quite
enigmatic. I've gone through all this before - particularly with
regard to the possible Hermione/Ginny friendship - and I know it has
met with a lot of opposition, but I think what small role she plays
in GoF isn't boring or wimpish at all. I think she acts in a very
mature way. She is comforting Ron in a motherly way, until he forces
her back into the little sister role, she knows how to keep a secret,
and she doesn't let Neville down when there's the possibility she can
go with Harry to the Yule Ball. And she does seem livelier at home -
Bill's hair is an example of this. Penny mentions also that Hermione
always tries to get rid of Ginny before they discuss something
important. Well, we know from her treatment of the time turner etc.
that Hermione can keep a secret, and has a very strong sense of what
she can and cannot say to people. It is natural that she doesn't
want Ginny around to her some stray reference or discussion of
Sirius, as only Hermione, Harry, Ron and Dumbledore (and perhaps
Lupin?) were aware of what happened and they need to keep it that way.
