 I haven't heard of any book burning in the UK yet, but the whole 
debate of HP has come up.  I have a very close friend who is a born 
again Christian (which we never discuss anymore because it causes too 
many arguments), and the official line from her church is also anti-
Potter.  I don't understand it.  HP is allegorical in a similar way 
to CS Lewis's.  They may not be fundamentally Christian in 
perspective, but they cover the same issues of good/evil, 
right/wrong, and I would go further and say that perhaps they cover 
the grey areas in a much more realistic way.   Perhaps if JKR taught 
theology at a dusty old Oxford (or was it Cambridge?) College, then 
her work would be viewed differently. 

My friend's husband works in a Christian bookshop, which sells CS 
Lewis, and other allegorical fairytales.  It makes me  so sad that so 
many people are jumping on a bandwagon without having the gumption to 
pick up the books for themselves.  Do they think that they are going 
to be corrupted by them?

PS. My friend doesn't believe evolution or that dinosaurs existed 
either - church doctrine again.  Why???!
