I don't know the number of years there, but they explain why nobody wondered 
about his sudden studder.. I forget who, but I think it was Fred or George, 
but someone explained that he went on a trip during the summer (Which was how 
Voldemort got ahold of him) and came back talking about a werewolf that 
nearly killed him.. everyone assumed that was the reason for his strange 
behavior, and also the reason for him suddenly wearing a turban, which was 
supposedly full of dark-magic repellants because of his newfound fearfulness.
