I had my suspicions because of his *last* name, not his first. As soon as 
they met him on the train, and they learned his name was Lupin, a light bulb 
went off. Same to with Sirius Black and the reference to the Grim. (Sirius 
Black - black dog) It just fit so well. I didn't have it entirely figured 
out, though. I thought at first that it was metaphorical.
