The general assumption is that Pettigrew was in Gryffindor with James, 
Sirius and Lupin.

I don't think one's house has anything to do with being "good" or 
"evil". I think everyone has the potential for "evil" as well as the 
potential for "good". For example, Ravenclaws are supposed to be 
clever, but that does not necessarily a Ravenclaw will not use their 
cleverness for evil purposes. Ditto for a Slytherin. Slytherins are  
willing to break rules and do anything to get what they want. Sure, 
this doesn't have "Good-Guy" written all over it, but it doesn't 
necessarily mean "evil" either.
