GoF takes place 1994-1995, so Frank *would* have been "old"--in his 
70s.  Remember, WWII was over in 1945, which makes it 50 years past.  
The hard-of-hearing part could have come from being exposed to 
gunfire at close range, as well as age.  

Just my 2 knuts worth too.
