 This resonates with me.  He says he just rationalized that Black's 
 Animagic wasn't important to the case because he didn't want to 
 confess to Dumbledore that he'd betrayed his trust back in his school 
 days; I'm sure if asked who betrayed James and Lily, he would say 
 Sirius; but deep down, I think he still wonders if somehow, Sirius 
 could be innocent.  All the evidence points toward Sirius's guilt, but 
 when you know someone so well and you know that he would die for you 
 or for the people he is supposed to have betrayed, I imagine some 
 innermost part of you can cling to your judgment and intuition, even 
 if the evidence is against you.
