This is why CoS is my least favorite. It seems contrived. But I had a
thought or two. Dumbledore not only wanted to protect the stone, he
wanted to flush out the person aiding Voldemort. The knowledge that it
was *possible* to get past the barriers could have been bait.
In addition, who knows what things might have happened to someone
grasping the wrong key?
