We do know that Dumbledore was in Gryffindor because of Hermione. in
PS ch. 6, Hermione comes into Harry and Ron's looking for Neville's
toad.

"Do either of you know what house you'll be in? I've been asking
around and I hope I'm in Gyffindor, it sounds the best, I hear
Dumbledore himself was one, but I suppose Ravenclaw wouldn't be too
bad..." (p.79-80, UK pbk.)

And can I humor you? My favorite line is in this scene. After
Hermione gives her whole spill, JKR writes "She said all this very
fast."

Hope that helps!
