This is true too and I was just as shocked to see that, given that 
Mrs. Weasley has known Hermione for four years now [or at least 
peripherally through Ron].  

That's just it. Molly doesn't really know Hermione. But then, I would think Molly would know not to trust Rita Skeeter. I mean, after all the fraudulent articles on the Ministry's actions...
