JKR hasn't told us what was in Lily and 
James' wands, so I'm prepared to bet they both had phoenix 
feathers too.  


Well, it can't be automatically assumed that children automatically have the same wand cores as their parents, just like how children don't necessarily get sorted into the same houses as their parents.
