Don't forget Dumbledore trusted Moody/Crouch Jr. for an entire school 
year. I have a suspicion that as the books progress, Harry, Ron and 
Hermione will learn that people do make mistakes. They've 
already learnt that books and documents aren't necessarily the 
be-all-that-ends-all, for example the Animagi Registry. "Trusting 
because Dumbledore trusts" is alittle too elementary.
