Lupin-fan to Lupin-fan...
This is an interesting thread, and I somehow saw it
coming. It's amazing how I've been forced to *think*
about my instinctive perception of the character, so
thanks to whoever started it '-)

And why wouldn't he fear? Perhaps that was his normal,
natural reaction at a werewolf as something too wild and
wrong. Plus the stress of the sudden transformation...
Nerves and instincts. I definitely *would* back away, were
I a smart Kneazle/cat.
The Patronus: first, the boggart would not turn into a Dementor
for Remus, and so his Patronus charm would not have a desired
effect (successfully-driving-a-Dementor-away demo) in his
special sessions with Harry. We'd need a real Dementor and
a not scared(!) independent observer to judge... alas, no chance
this far. But Remus' teaching style and methods speak of professionalism
to me. Like, he *can* do all those things, even if he's not, er...
showing off...
Oh, info. O Author almighty, give us more info, will you please?
The trust issue, now... That's hard. I have a theory of my own,
and a theory it remains unless we're told something essential in
books 5-(hopefully)7. But shortly, it says that being a werewolf
transforms a person gravely, and not only once a month. I'm here
with Snape who can't fathom the way a werewolf's mind works,
but there ought to be a conflict between conscience and instinct.
Something that cannot be measured & judged by human standards.
There's an inevitable twist, either you fight or give in. Remus fights,
and that makes the contradictions obvious... The Animagi secret
must be somewhere on the border line, IMHO.
(And, in retrospection: Sirius' "joke" has *not* been over and done
with for about 15 years. Unlike the Animagi mystery & its
consequences...)
> Cindy (starting to wonder whether all of this werewolf prejudice
> might have just a teeny, weeny basis in fact)
Why, of course they *do* have a basis. But then it becomes personal.
I just don't think Remus - with all his issues - is a good example of a
common case '-)
Partial me... I have never seen Remus as a *perfect* character, but
I do trust him. Still. Must be my feline instincts... Hope time will tell.
