   With all due respect I think maybe you're reading
to much into it. The slight difference in speech
pattern does indicate he is 'onstage' when dealing
with students, playing a role, presenting a particular
kind of character; 'strict and sarcastic
schoolmaster'. Alone with other adults, especially
when under stress he relaxes into a less mannered more
natural speech. That's probably all there is to it.
