Harry's Godmother?

I don't know about British traditions, but in the States, there is 
usually a Godfather AND a Godmother.  It's more of an honorary title 
than a guardian choice, so they don't have to be married or anything 
like that.  So anyways, here's what I'm getting at.  We don't know 
anything about Lily's friends at school.  I know JKR said we'll learn 
more about Lily in later books (book5?).  I assume she had a best 
friend?   Do you think it's likely that James and Lily appointed 
Lily's best friend Harry's Godmother?  If so, where has she been this 
whole time?  What's her story?  Am I way off base here, or does 
anyone else think it's a possibility?
