1. Hermione is described as being "torn between horror at the idea of Harry being out of bed, roaming the school three nights in a row... and disappointment that he hadn't at least found out who Nicolas Flamel was." (PS/SS Am. Ed. 215) How do you think Hermione would have gone about looking for Flamel if she had stayed for the holidays?
I suppose she wouldn't have played chess or toasted marshmallows over the common room fire, but stayed in the library for the whole holidays- maybe coming down for meals. But I doubt she would have found it anyway, not knowing where she had to search.
2. Why does Snape feel he will be able to best protect Harry while refereeing the quidditch match, rather than watching Quirrell from the stands as before?
Maybe he just wants to show off his legs.....
3. The Chocolate Frog card proclaims that Dumbledore is also famous for "his work on alchemy with his partner, Nicolas Flamel." (PS/SS Am. Ed. 219) Flamel's dates are 1330-1417
(http://www.scs.uiuc.edu/~mainzv/exhibit/flamel.htm). Dumbledore is approximatley 150 years old in PS/SS. If Flamel is the only known maker of the Philosopher's/Sorcerer's Stone (and has been since the early 15th century), then for what kinds of alchemical discoveries are Flamel and Dumbledore so intimately mixed as to end up on a Chocolate Frog card together?
Wish I had the book with me for I don't recall the text on the card exactly. So the problem would be: If he has been alive from 1317 to 1981, he obviously has already succeeded in making the stone- what other exploits might he have accomplished with Albus? Good question. Maybe a better formula, kind of updated version? The Ferrari among Philosopher's stones?
4. In Quirrell's DADA class the students are required to copy down different ways of treating werewolf bites. If treatments exists for werewolf bites (and they're simple enough to be understood by eleven-year-olds) and some lycanthropic symptoms (Wolfsbane potion), why has such a violent fear and hatred of werewolves been retained so strongly in the wizarding community?
Maybe a werewolf bite is not like any other ordinary wound you just disinfect with some potion, but has to be treated with special spells, potions etc. to heal. So it wouldn't be a cure against the effect of the bite, but only the medical procedure.
5. After such a spectacular nab and an important victory, why would Harry (the hero of the hour) be by himself after the game and on his trip to the broom shed? I imagine Fred and George would have pinned his arms to his sides with his scarlet cloak and frog marched Harry into the common room....
Angry howl because I don't have the book here. But isn't Harry speaking to Dumbledore after the match and the others simply precede him into the castle, not wanting to disturb his conversation with the headmaster?
6.The conversation between Quirrell and Snape: ARGH! I have so many problems with this scene!
6A. How much does Snape know about Quirrell's reasons for wanting the Stone?
Aaaaaah! The nagging problem. Mind-boggling. Anyway, I suppose that the promise of having as much money as you want and becoming immortal might be sufficiently appealing to whoever for trying to get the stone. No further motives needed. And obviously Snape doesn't make the connection between the attempt at Harry's life and the interest in the stone. But why the heck doesn't he go to Dumbledore? That's the bit I never manage to figure out. It would have been so easy! Or did he tell Dumbledore and was entrusted with the task of keeping an eye on Quirrell? Aaaaargh- brain cramps!!!
6B. Why doesn't Quirrell/Voldemort reveal himself to Snape, a (former) Death Eater and one of the Stone's protectors?
If only we knew how Voldemort communicates with Quirrell! AFAIK, they don't share Quirrell's brain, Voldemort has just taken possession of his body, like a parasite, but there doesn't seem to be any telepathic connection. If Voldemort can't see and hear when Quirrell has him covered with the turban, and if he doesn't share a brain with Quirrell, he depends on what Quirrell tells him. Maybe, out of fear, he didn't tell him about Snape's suspicions. But then OTOH, how does Voldemort manage to torture Quirrell? FLINT alert!
6C. Why does Snape suspect Quirrell in the first place? Did they know each other before?
After what he did at the first Quidditch match... Seems quite logical to me. Furthermore, Quirrell made the big mistake to use a troll at Halloween, of all possible creatures, and it was known that he had quite the knack with trolls.

"And how come those portraits seem to be alive?"
"What'ya mean? All paintings move."
"No, they don't. We have lots of paintings in our villa, among them a real Chagall, and none of them..."
"And d'ya expect that something painted by a jackal will move? Now really..."
